I understand that there is a work stoppage. Why is the Met having a labor dispute?

The Met regularly undertakes union negotiations every three to five years. The most recent contract with Local One (our stagehands) expired on July 31, 2020, and although we had a number of bargaining sessions before the lockout, we were not able to make any meaningful progress toward a new agreement that would include necessary cost reductions.
